Former Chief Minister Rai's confession in the UK: Many issues could not be addressed while in government

Leader Rai made this self-reflection while speaking at a felicitation, welcome and interaction program organized by the Pravasi Nepali Forum UK, South West Committee in Fleet Hampshire on Sunday. He has been visiting the UK for the past two weeks on personal work. At the program chaired by Pramish Sharma, the chairman of the forum's Southwest Committee, Rai said, "In the past, when we were in government, we had to take concrete decisions on the legitimate demands of the Gorkhas and common issues of migrants such as citizenship and voting rights, but we could not address them due to various reasons. It was our weakness to not be able to resolve this issue even when we were in government. I feel guilty about this and the party will now work on these issues concretely with a clear concept." At the program, NRNA ICC Vice President Ram Sharan Simkhada expressed his views on the problems of Nepalis living abroad and the support expected from the Nepali government. He drew the attention of Leader Rai to the continuation of citizenship, which NRNA and others have been advocating for for a long time, the retention of citizenship of descendants in the upcoming constitutional amendment, and various issues related to the diaspora. Similarly, Saraswati KC, central member of the Forum International Committee and UK in-charge, Manch UK President Pashupati Pokharel, former presidents Dinesh Ghimire and Surendra Thapaliya, former vice-president Kumar KC, current vice-presidents Pratima KC and Leelaman Sherpunja, youth leaders Saroj KC, Shambhu Aryal and Sushil Chhetri also spoke about contemporary political issues and the difficulties faced by Nepalis in the diaspora. Speakers at the event emphasized the need for the government to ensure dual citizenship, equal rights for Gorkhas, and take contemporary political issues seriously.
