From Nepal to the UK: Building Community Away From Home Moving from Nepal to the UK changed my life in many ways. I left behind my family, friends, familiar food and surroundings and had to learn how to manage life independently balancing studies, work, finances and everything in between. Like many Nepali students and young people, I also had to adapt to a new culture, environment and way of life. It wasn't always easy, but it taught me independence, resilience and the importance of having a supportive community around you. My journey eventually led me to become Vice President – Community & Welfare at the University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union, where I represented around 20,000 students and worked on issues including accommodation, wellbeing, inclusion and student engagement. That experience made me realise how powerful community can be, especially when you are far from home. This is one of the reasons I created Nepali Community in UK a platform where we can connect and support one another. Whether you're looking for a job, a room, a business, an event, volunteering opportunity or simply want to connect with other Nepali people, I hope this platform can make things a little easier. But this isn't just about a website. It's about building a community where we can share, support and grow together. No matter where we are in the UK, Nepal will always be home.
